D&A^®electric Kick-Down 

The pilot vessel 'POLARIS' of the Dutch Pilotage accelerates within a minute from zero to six knots (11 km/h) thanks to the innovative D&A^® electric Kick-Downsystem. The system is activated by a button and then the power electronics intervene in the process and everything is quickly brought on-line. Maximum propulsion power is achieved within 24 seconds. Six generators are powered up for emergency and evasive manoeuvres. The pilot vessel 'Polaris' must be able to operate in heavy weather conditions and busy waters. For this, the propellers are equipped with nozzles and the shape of the stern is adjusted accordingly. The 'POLARIS' accelerates within a minute from zero to six knots (11 km/h).
